Individuals without a formal nursing background who are interested in working as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Iowa are required to complete a state-approved LPN Iowa training program (as well as pass the national NCLEX-PN licensure examination).
In the U.S., all 50 states are required by federal law to approve and monitor official licensed practical nurse (LPN) programs. The Iowa Board of Nursing is the organizational department responsible for approving those IA LPN programs found throughout the state.
