Preschool Lesson Plan For Sense

Mice are cute, small animals that are often featured as the main characters in books such as Frederick and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Children identify with these small creatures that move around a much bigger world. Some mice are welcome in homes as pets while in other cases they become pests that steal human food and cache for future use.

Preschool Games to Introduce Mice

Show a picture of a mouse. Explain that they are nocturnal, they move around at night. Because it is dark when they move the most (whether they are in a house or living in the wild), they have poor eyesight but excellent sense of hearing and smell.

The Nose Knows – Place herbal teabags at the bottom of three cups. Set some polyester fill or cotton balls to hide the teabags. Set more fill in three empty cups. Pass around the cups for the children to sniff and identify which hold hidden teabags. Point out how mice have an excellent sense of smell to locate food.
