Almost all major league baseball players (with the exception of Cincinnati's Mike Leake) play in the minor leagues before reaching "The Big Show." Some, however, play in college before the minor leagues, and some enter the draft immediately after high school.
Baseball is the only sport for which it is still acceptable to enter the draft as a recent high school graduate. To enter the NBA draft, for example, a player must be at least one year removed from his high school graduation. The NFL takes an even stricter approach: eligible players must be at least three years removed.
